Al-Zahraa University for Women marked its fifth anniversary on Monday, 11 December 2023, in the presence of official and academic figures, with a range of activities held in the University’s Central Hall. The said event coincides with Victory Day celebrations and was held under the slogan “Inspired by Perseverance, Distinguished by Success”.
The celebration was attended by Prof. Al-Hajj Hassan Rashid Al-Abayechi, Secretary-General of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine; Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, the University President; delegations from Imam Ali Holy Shrine and Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine; as well as delegations comprising religious and academic figures, alongside a large number of administrative staff, University academics and female students.
The ceremony opened with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem. This was followed by an address delivered by Al-Hajj Al-Abayechi, who described the University as a scientific and academic institution for women established by Imam Hussein Holy Shrine to support and advance women scientifically and academically while preserving their chastity and status in society.
Al-Abayechi further praised the significant efforts made by His Eminence Al-Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbala’i, the legitimate Overseer of the Affairs of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine and representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, in supporting and developing the University across its various fields, as well as the efforts of the officials of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, the University presidency and its staff.
In her address, Prof. Dr. Al-Sultani expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine, represented by His Eminence Al-Karbala’i, Al-Abayechi and all supporting departments, for their unlimited support of the University throughout the years since its establishment and for their contribution to advancing its academic, scientific and infrastructural development.
This was followed by a video presentation produced by the University’s Department of Media and Government Communication, highlighting the University’s most significant scientific and academic achievements, as well as its infrastructural development.
The celebration also featured poetry recitations by Prof. Dr. Khudair Darwish, an academic at the Faculty of Education, Department of Arabic Language; a poem presented by Janan Aqeel, a female student in the Department of English Language; and a contribution by Isra' Hazim on the occasion of Victory Day.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Prof. Dr. Al-Sultani was honoured by Al-Abayechi in recognition of her significant efforts in carrying out her duties and overseeing the academic institution.
Additionally, the academic staff members who had attained scientific promotions were also honoured, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Al-Qazzaz, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medical Technologies; Asst. Prof. Dr. Farah 'Amer, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia; Asst. Prof. Dr. Sadiq Al-Murshidi, Head of the Department of Radiology and Sonography; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Huda S'eed Al-Umidi, Head of the Department of Arabic Language.
Furthermore, a number of high-achieving female students and those distinguished for their participation in activities and external events were also honoured.
